What is the history of palmistry or palm reading?
Surely you have already heard: palmistry is one of the oldest divination techniques that exist in the history of mankind. India, or rather China, is probably the cradle of chylogy. How did his destiny unfold during these thousands of years? Next, we tell you:
Palmistry, born in ancient times
Legend has it that it was thanks to the great Aristotle that learning to read the lines of the hand became popular in the old continent (although this already existed in Asia). Most likely, he found it himself, and then translated a work on palmistry. Apparently, he passed all his knowledge on this subject to his great disciple, Alexander the Great, also known as Alexander of Macedon, with which many people in ancient Europe began to learn about this method of divination.
From Assyria and Babylon comes the thesis that palmistry is combined with astrology. Over time, a new way of perceiving manual reading was adopted in Greece and Rome. This combination meant that it was no longer treated as superstition or an element of popular belief, and it began to be assigned characteristics of science.
Another ancient story already recalls the figure of Julius Caesar, who studied palm reading on his own. Apparently, the most important attribute for him was his hands, so from them he began to judge the visitors and those who gathered around him.
However, not many similar legends are found in ancient writings, as well as information. It is possible that there were many more of them, but they simply did not survive to this day, they could be destroyed by fire or simply lost, perhaps they rest somewhere in a grave or in some other place unknown to us. It is also possible that some of them were simply destroyed by the Church when she began to rule in the 4th century AD.
Palmistry, however, lived to see its time, and even its work. The first known book on learning to read by hand was created by a German, Johann von Hagen, in the late 15th century. This work, with the name of "The art of palmistry", was not published until the year 1522, after the death of the author.
Another important work was Krystian Schallitz's 1703 book entitled "Of superstitions and delusions freed from palmistry and physiognomy".
Palmistry even found recognition in some universities in Europe, which was an amazing event and a breakthrough in the study of this manual reading technique. And it even came to have the same importance as other sciences, such as theology. Things that could only happen in the 18th century.
The great advance of palmistry
However, palmistry owes its great popularity to Luis Hammon, who in the 19th century predicted the future from the hand of many characters. His words were 100% fulfilled, which is why his name became popular in various countries. His name is associated with figures such as: Oscar Wilde or Mark Twain.
This meant new changes in the perception of palmistry. In 1913, at the Congress of Psychology, it was officially recognized as a science, which was sealed with the publication of a large number of publications on the reading of palm lines.
There is an anecdote related to Louis Hammon. To check the validity of the method, a group of journalists showed the researcher an image of a hand, without mentioning whose hand it was, with the request to describe the person to whom it belongs. The fortune teller easily found out that the "owner" of the hand was a criminal. He also stated that the sentence would not be carried out in his case. As a result, it actually turned out that due to an error in the prosecution, the sentence was changed to life imprisonment.
Today palmistry is a well-known art, although not as widespread. Unfortunately, their range has significantly decreased compared to the early 20th century. Now it is considered again as the field of divination rather than as a science equivalent to psychology. Perhaps, however, there will come a time when the lines of the hand are one of the tests of our personality.
What are the lines of the hand that are studied in palmistry?
Do you want to know a little more about reading the lines of the hand? Next, we share with you the lines that are interpreted, as well as their names and characteristics.
According to palmistry, the lines on a human hand reflect the connections of the stars. The specific arrangement of these lines testifies to the unique course of a person's life: it reflects what has happened and what is about to happen in his life.
1. life line
The most famous and interesting line on the hand is the line of life. There are no indications of life expectancy when looking at it, as this line represents your general level of health and vital energy.
2. main line
It determines the mental qualities and character of a person. The headline is very often associated with the life line (although this is not always the case), and the moment when two lines separate can be considered a place where independence develops.
3. Heart line
Describes the ability to experience love and give it to others. People with a clearly outlined heart line are caring and sensitive. An interesting fact is that this line is usually much clearer in women.
4. The Fate Line
By looking at this line on the hand, we can see the general level of happiness in a person's life. Major events and turning points in life are also outlined on the line of fate.
5. The marriage line
This is also sometimes known as the relationship line. Describe the number and duration of relationships in human life. The clearer it is, the more it proves your stability and good ability to live with another person.
